Laser hair removal for dark and tanned skin
Darker skin can be treated with laser, but the device and the settings matter. Here is how we do it safely, and when we would tell you to wait.
- Diode laser, not IPL
- Patch test for every client
- Settings chosen for your skin
Why skin tone matters
Laser targets pigment. In darker skin, the skin itself contains more pigment, so the energy has to reach the hair without overheating the surface. Older IPL devices and some lasers are not suitable for this.
Our Alma Soprano Ice Platinum combines three wavelengths, including a longer wavelength that passes more safely through darker skin, and a cooling tip that protects the surface. Irina sets the energy and pulse for your skin type at the patch test.
How we keep it safe
- A patch test on every new client, checked 24 to 48 hours later
- Conservative starting settings, increased only when your skin responds well
- No treatment on freshly tanned skin: wait about 2 weeks after sun exposure
- Clear aftercare, especially SPF, to protect against pigment changes
Questions clients ask
Can laser cause dark marks on brown skin?
Pigment changes are a known risk with any laser, and higher on darker skin. The patch test, cautious settings and SPF aftercare reduce it. Tell us if you tend to scar or mark easily.
Will it take more sessions?
Sometimes, because settings start lower. Most clients still need 6 to 10 sessions per area.
Can I have treatment with a tan?
Not on a fresh tan, including fake tan. Let it fade for about 2 weeks first.
